Do you know how long ago the liturgical feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was instituted? 250 years ago, in 1765! It was the pope Clement XIII who did so, although at first only for Poland. Almost a hundred years later, in 1856, with the Blessed Pius IX as pope, the feast of the Sacred Heart took on a universal dimension. Since then, four encyclicals have been written to speak specifically about the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Here is the list, with a link to each of the encyclicals - enjoy! Photographs by Cathopic.

1. ">http://www.corazones.org/doc/annum_sacrum.htm">Annum Sacrum. This encyclical was written by the pope Leo XIII and published on May 25, 1899. With it, this pope consecrated the human race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: "The Sacred Heart of Jesus is the Sacred Heart of Jesus".We therefore decided that on the 9th, 10th and 11th of next June, in the church of each locality and in the main church of each city, specific prayers will be recited. 2. Miserentissimus Redemptor.Written by the pope Pius XI, This encyclical was issued on May 8, 1928. In this document, Pius XII wrote: "There is no more urgent need, venerable brethren, than to make known the immeasurable riches of Christ (Eph 3:8) to the men and women of our time.".
4. Haurietis aquas.A centenary after devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus became universal, in 1956, Pope Benedict XVI, the Pope Pius XII repeated the theme of the encyclical, speaking again about the Sacred Heart, specifically about its cult.
